Annual Report

The mission of Justine Petersen is to connect institutional resources to the needs of low- and moderate-income families in order to build assets and create enduring change.

In 2007, Justine Petersen staff significantly increased access to capital for low- and moderate-income families in the St. Louis MSA. Justine Petersen counselors met one-on-one with 623 prospective homebuyers and assisted 89 to purchase homes. Many were first generation homebuyers!

Small business lending was on the rise. Justine Petersen staff originated $1.4 million in 230 micro-loans. Micro-loans assist entrepreneurs that are unable to access capital elsewhere. Through the generosity of the Danforth Foundation, Justine Petersen distributed computers, printers, and financial management software and trained business owners on their uses as part of its Strengthening Business program.

Justine Petersen lending for credit building, debt consolidation and foreclosure prevention also increased as staff - through Justine Petersen's certified Community Development Financial Institution, Great Rivers Community Capital - originated $481,000 in 145 loans.

As an enhancement tool for its homeownership and small business products, Justine Petersen opened 123 new Individual Development Accounts and facilitated 206 matched withdrawals, bringing an additional $560,700 in asset purchases to our community.

Most notable in 2007 was Justine Petersen's purchase, renovation, and move to 1023 N. Grand Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63106. Welcome to our new home!
